The Swedish Coast Guard is a civilian authority under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence. The Swedish Coast Guard is working for a sustainable marine environment and improving safety at sea. It supervises rescues and provides assistance along the entire Swedish coastline.

The Swedish Coast Guard is a civilian authority under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence.  The Swedish Coast Guard is working for a sustainable marine environment and improving safety at sea. The Swedish Coast Guard supervises rescues and provides assistance at sea 24 hours a day, 365 days a year along the entire Swedish coastline.

The command centers of the Swedish Coast Guard are located in Gothenburg.

Main duties

The duties of the Swedish Coast Guard include but are not limited to: preventive measures to reduce discharge of oil and other harmful substances, pollution response operations, search and rescue (SAR) operations, fishery control, monitoring and surveillance of protected sea areas and of maritime traffic, border control in cooperation with police and customs, mitigation of cross border crime in cooperation with other national and international authorities, and coordination and dissemination of sea traffic information.
