On 5 March 2018 the Arctic Coast Guard Forum (ACGF) Members gathered in Turku to train practical level cooperation in a simulator environment. In the exercise organized in Aboa Mare Training Center focus was placed on developing joint standards of procedure in international search and rescue missions. Operators of Hurtigruten, a member of the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO), also took part in the exercise playing the role of the distress vessel and the On-Scene Commander. Furthermore, software of the Finnish company Fleetrange was used to increase situational awareness of the participating units.

Training in a simulator environment offers a cost-efficient means to conduct joint international Search and Rescue exercises.

The Arctic Coast Guard Forum’s simulator exercise consisted of two different scenarios that focused on the different roles of participating SAR units. This particular simulator exercise is closely connected to the preparations leading up to the ACGF’s next joint live exercise, taking place in Finland in the spring of 2019.
